Functional hydrogel-coated microneedle platform for sampling of cancer-specific biomarkers from interstitial fluid

Dr Dana Alsulaiman is an Assistant Professor of Material Science and Engineering in the Physical Science and Engineering division at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). She has completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT, has a PhD in Bioengineering in the Ladame Lab, Imperial College London (ICL), and received her master’s and bachelor’s also from ICL. Her work presented for the award is a functional hydrogel-coated microneedle platform which enables rapid and non-invasive sampling and detection of cancer-specific biomarkers from the skin’s interstitial fluid. This makes the technology more amenable for point of care applications, all while offering more specific and reliable clinicopathological information.
