OsteoMentor: Emotional intelligent dialogue agent for better healthcare quality
Osteoporosis is a highly prevalent disease in the world, and not enough attention is dedicated to it. Patients do not get enough care, and never pay attention to the disease until they suffer from a fracture and in many cases end up with a permanent disability. The idea was to provide an app that can support patients outside the clinic and keep them engaged in their healthcare.
This is the first time that the concept of emotional climate, i.e., the emotion reciprocally established by the peers during a naturalistic conversation, is adopted in affective computing. This novel system will be implemented within OsteoMentor, a first-of-its-kind smart platform that assists patients with osteoporosis (or at a risk) in managing their own healthcare. Additionally, by incorporating second and third-order statistics features from speech signals along with the affective dynamics of the speakers, this system adopts a novel approach to assess emotional climate aspects in naturalistic conversations.
By connecting the emotional state with all other medical data of the patients and suggesting better healthcare plans, the app will be able to offer more individualized healthcare support outside of the clinic.
