INNOVATION:
Bloom: A safe, affordable, comfortable, and self-adjustable 3-D printed prosthetic leg design
This is the first ever prosthetic leg design made of recyclable materials under $20 that provides a one- size-fits all solution allowing amputees in war-torn countries to self-fit their prosthetic rather than travel to visit inaccessible clinics for fitting. This is also the first prosthetic system that grows with the amputee and doesn’t need to be replaced as they grow in height or fluctuate in weight but also presents with wide degrees of motion and rotation for comfort and efficiency while supporting faster gait with minimal user energy consumption given the 4-bar knee mechanism.
The uses of this design is currently targeted towards amputees who can’t afford the alternative prosthetics that are inaccessible, expensive, and often-times uncomfortable.
